It is never to early or too late to start planning a spring garden. Last year was my first attempt at growing a small assortment of herbs and vegetables-tomatoes, basil, chives, sage, cilantro, rose geranium. I started the process a little late, but to my surprise everything flourished! I discovered that having your own "edible garden" is not only an excellent hands-on way to teach kids about self sufficiency but also an eco-friendly way to save money on produce, bring more organic foods into your diet, and add a pleasant visual aesthetic to any backyard.
If you think that making your own vegetable or herb garden is too much work or impossible for the space you are living in, click here to visit the Dave's Garden website recommended to me by a local gardener. It is the online "gardening Mecca" for all of your plant questions. Also try Garden Anywhere if you are looking for creative ways to garden in super small spaces.
After my surprising success last year I have decided to get a little more adventurous with my potted garden. This is what will be in my Edible Garden coming this spring:
- Roma Tomatoes
- Green Bell Peppers
- Jalapenos
- Sage
- Lemon Verbena
- Rose Geranium
- Chives
- Cilantro
